- Balance
- Well balanced. The sherry sweetness and oak sit together without either taking over, though the 40% strength keeps the body on the lighter side.
Step 03: The viewpoint
How gentle it is for such a dark colour. You expect a heavy sherry bomb, but it’s soft and easy-going from the first sip.
At 40% it feels thin next to modern sherried Macallans bottled at 43% or higher. The finish fades sooner than the nose promises, and the price is about the label and the story, not the liquid.
Step 04: Collector’s verdict
Collectors of Macallan or Private Eye memorabilia, and anyone who wants a piece of 1990s whisky history. Not for drinkers looking for value per dram.
8.8 sits in the Very good band (8.5–8.9).
